Personal collections of major studio agents, film critics and foreign correspondents will be sold in Vancouver, B.C., Tuesday, Nov. 26, through Monday, Dec. 2.
More than 600 posters and a treasure trove of other movie and theater memorabilia go on sale Tuesday, Nov. 26 when the private collections of three movie industry leaders go on sale at West Fourth Avenue’s Now & Then Lifestyle Boutique.
Vancouver native Brent Calvert, who for 16 years represented major Hollywood studios in Vancouver with his own firm, ETC Concepts, is adding his personal movie poster collection to those of former correspondent for New York’s Variety, London’s Screen International and Hollywood Reporter Mel Tobias and former Vancouver Sing Tao movie critic Kenson Ho to create the sale of movie posters and related collectibles.
“We have posters from every imaginable genre” says Tobias, who has organized the sale. “Posters for movie classics from the 60s, 70s and 80s such as ‘Little Darlings,’ ‘Lone Wolf McQuade,’ ‘Dragonslayer’ and ‘Just A Gigolo,’ children’s favorites like ‘Free Willy’ and ‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers’ and such action films as ‘The Avengers’ and ‘The Thin Red Line.’ We also have a great selection of Asian film posters. It’s an astonishing collection.”
Most of the posters are rolled, but a good number are mounted or framed, including such treasures as “Casablanca,” “Dreamgirls,” “Little Foxes” and “Brother Sun, Sister Moon.”
Also included in the sale are out-of-print soundtracks, foreign and cult film laser discs and DVDs, many Asian film posters and photos, slides, movie scripts, postcards, Broadway show music sheets, international and Cannes Film Festival momentos, nostalgia recordings and West End and Broadway playbills.
