More than six hours after closing because of a propane truck accident, both directions of Highway 20 on Central Whidbey Island are now open to traffic.

Emergency personnel closed the highway between Patmore Road and the Highway 20 and Highway 525 junction to clean up the crash site.

At approximately 8:20 a.m., Mount Vernon resident Lonnie Shere was driving a 2005 Kenworth truck hauling approximately 2,500 gallons of propane south on Highway 20. He sneezed and the truck veered into a drainage ditch. Police say he overcorrected back onto the roadway. The truck then rolled and came to rest facing north.

He was transported to Whidbey General Hospital where he was treated and released.
