The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the Admiralty Inlet area, which will go into effect this afternoon.

High winds are expected to hit around 3 p.m. and continue until 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

“Wind speeds are expected to increase late this afternoon, reaching their peak tonight and into early Thursday morning,” the advisory states. “Winds will slowly diminish on Thursday.”

Wind speeds are estimated to be 25-35 mph with gusts reaching 45 mph.

“Fallen tree limbs and downed power lines may result in power outages,” the advisory states. “Given the saturated state of the ground, these strong winds could result in uprooted trees.”

As a precaution, the Weather Service warned that winds this strong can make driving difficult and advised using extra caution when on the road.

A coastal flood advisory was also issued, warning that between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Thursday, minor tidal overflow is likely around the time of high tide, which may flood very low lying coastal areas for a few hours.
