On Sunday, Oct. 21, after running a few errands with two of my children in tow, our last stop was the grocery store. Upon returning to the car, my son discovered a note on our windshield and to my horror recited it to me in all its vulgarity. I had not realized one of my children brought our dog along with us on this day. This is something I never do unless our day is planned around activities that we can include our dog in (beach combing, hiking, etc).

The note instructed me to roll my windows down followed by a vulgar statement of what the author hoped my dog would do on my seat. While I appreciate your concern for my dog and fully agree with your recommendation regarding the windows — had I realized our dog was with us the windows would have most definitely been rolled down, I would like to make these points:

You should not presume one is acting from a state of cruelty or neglect. It certainly was not the case here.

You would communicate your message better doing so respectfully with the intent to educate not to bully or abuse. Your chosen language only demonstrated to me a lack of self control and weakness of mind.

And finally, at least have the decency to leave your name. The absence of it, in my opinion, was cowardly.

I am a reasonable person and would have welcomed a civil, face-to-face discussion with you and likely would have expressed gratitude for your concern and watchfulness over those who can do little to defend themselves.
