Oak Harbor got a thumb’s up from Harley-Davidson riders during the Washington State Harley Owners Group Rally.

Vince Danner, the rally coordinator from Stanwood who broke Eastern Washington site tradition and picked Oak Harbor to host the event, said the July 18-20 event was well received by the 428 riders who attended.

He said the only minor blemish on an otherwise beautiful weekend of weather was the fog that greeted riders during a ride to the top of Mount Erie on Fidalgo Island.

Instead of a gorgeous view, riders saw a blanket of fog.

“Other than heavy marine layer Friday and Saturday mornings, the weather couldn’t have been any better,” Danner said.

Danner said the state rally will be changed to a regional format next year with Spokane Valley hosting Washington, Oregon and Idaho riders.
