Published May 22, 2006

Gregory Scott Nugent Peticolas, born Nov. 2, 1976 in Sacramento to Frank Nugent and Janice Peticolas, passed away on May 22, 2006 at age 29 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico in an automobile accident. He was planning to be married just days later on May 27 to Nicole Rusinovich, originally from Astoria, Ore. Greg’s time on earth may be over but he will never be forgotten. His warmth, his love of the outdoors and the special love of his dogs left a wonderfully positive impression on family, friends, and acquaintances.

Greg loved to tease his sisters, Megan and Kimberly Peticolas, but also loved teaching them how to laugh, how to ski, and how not to throw a ball like a girl. Janice and John Peticolas raised their son on Whidbey Island just outside the town of Langley. In 1986 at the age of ten Greg accompanied his dad, John, and grandfather, Richard Peticolas, on the Tiger Cruise aboard the USS Enterprise from Hawaii to California and had one of the best excursions of his life.

A 1995 graduate of South Whidbey High School, Greg was Sophomore Class president. He was a gifted athlete and received varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball. Greg was also a member of the National Honor Society, a recipient of the Masonic Scholar Award Scholarship and a recipient of The Football Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Scholarship.

Greg graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Information Technology and a minor in Spanish. He was a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity. His fiance, Nicole Rusinovich, was also a U.W. graduate and is an accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

In 2001, Greg was hired by IBM and immediately went to work in the Boulder area. It was a great fit. He loved the responsibilities that came with IBM and he loved Colorado with the sunshine, skiing and mountains. Greg worked hard and played hard.

Greg loved to travel and has visited Mexico, Spain, Portugal and Brazil among other places. His fluency in Spanish made him a delight in Mexico and Latin America. In recent years Greg continued his love of snow skiing and interests like fly fishing, scuba diving and romping with his dogs Oso, Butte and Brutus.

His family and friends will miss him deeply; Nov. 2, 1976 to May 22, 2006 was not enough time with this wonderful man.
