Holiday spirit will be on display in Coupeville Saturday with the town’s annual Greening of Coupeville celebration.

The day kicks off with the annual Jingle Trail Run at Camp Casey.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. with the race starting at 10 a.m. Register now through the Coupeville Chamber of Commerce.

In between events, stop at two different bazaars being held at Coupeville United Methodist Church and St. Mary Catholic Church. St. Mary’s bazaar runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Methodist Church bazaar runs 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Items for sale at the Methodist Church will include handmade quilts and crafts, attic treasures, bakery items and fresh wreaths. Lunch of chicken casserole and homemade pie will be served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Spend an afternoon watching a free performance of “Peter and the Wolf” with the Saratoga Orchestra. The concert runs 1-3 p.m. at the Coupeville High School Performing Arts Center.

In addition to the special performance, there will be an Instrument Petting Zoo for the children to get up close and personal with the orchestra’s instruments. There will also be holiday music and fun.

The annual Greening of Coupeville Parade will begin at Terry Road and South Main Street about 4:15 p.m., making its way down Main Street to downtown Coupeville.

Gifts From the Heart precision drill team will be pushing grocery carts along the parade route, collecting food donations.

And new this year, the Coupeville Lions Club’s Leo Club will be walking the parade route collecting eyeglass donations for Lions vision programs.

Retiring Mayor Nancy Conard will be leading her final parade as mayor in her signature Frosty the Snowman costume.

As with each Greening, all events are weather dependent, said Lynda Eccles with the Coupeville Chamber of Commerce.

Last year, the community had such exceptionally warm weather that Conard had to stop halfway down the parade route because she became overheated in her snowman costume. She finished the event riding on the back of a tractor.

Shortly after the parade, the community will gather at Cook’s Corner Park for a tree lighting. Carolers will be lead from the porch of Anchorage Inn and after the lighting, crowds can shop on Front Street during a Late Night Shopping event.

Go on down to the Coupeville Wharf and watch participants from the Oak Harbor Marina in the Lighted Boat Parade.
