A Greenbank woman is accused of biting a WhidbeyHealth nurse near his groin during a mental health episode in April, according to court documents.

Rebekah Kelley Moss, 31, was charged with assault in the third degree in Island County Superior Court Sept. 26.

According to a police report, Moss was in the WhidbeyHealth emergency department April 18 for a mental evaluation. When healthcare workers tried to transfer her to an ambulance gurney, she became agitated and aggressive, the report states.

The ambulance was meant to transport Moss to a mental health facility. Emergency department staff asked for Moss’s cooperation, the report states, but Moss became belligerent and refused to sit on the gurney. According to the report, she attempted to force her way out of the emergency department and into the ambulance bay.

WhidbeyHealth workers attempted to restrain Moss and lift her onto the gurney, the report states. She became increasingly combative, according to the report, and ultimately bit one nurse on his inner right thigh.

According to the report, the bite was severe enough to draw blood and cause significant bruising around the mark. More staff arrived to help restrain Moss, who was medicated for safe transportation to the mental health facility for treatment.
