Golf: Ford leads Oak Harbor golfers in state tournament

Oak Harbor junior Judd Ford sits in 30th place after the first round of the state 4A golf tournament at the Canyon Lake Golf Course in Kennewick.

Ford shot a 78 Tuesday, May 25, and finished one-stroke over the cut line to advance to Wednesday’s, May 26, second, and final, round in the field of 80 golfers. His score is the best of all Wesco North golfers at the tournament.

All three Oak Harbor girls at the state 4A tournament at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco failed to make the cut, which was 85. Ashley Johnson fired a 92, good for 60th place; Melany Cone shot 94, 69th; and Simone Hamilton carded a 100, 77th, out of 79 golfers.

Jarrett Foote of Woodinville and James Feutz of Bellarmine Prep are tied for the boys lead with 69s. Chessey Thomas of Lewis and Clark tops the girls with a 68.

In a side note, Oak Harbor girls coach Andy Wesley hit a hole-in-one on the 194-yard eighth hole of the Columbia Point Golf Course in a practice round prior to the tournament.
