Saving its best showing of the year for the Wesco North tournament, the Oak Harbor girls finished second at Echo Falls in Monroe Monday, May 10.

Oak Harbor coach Andy Wesley said, “The girls had an amazing day.”

The second-place finish lifted the girls to third in the final league team standings with 23 points, just one point out of first behind Everett and Marysville-Pilchuck. During the regular season, the Wesco North schools played five three-team matches. The winning team in each match received three points, second two and third one. In the divisional meet Monday, the winning team earned nine points, the second place team eight, and so forth.

Everett won the nine-team divisional tournament with 245 modified Stableford points. Oak Harbor compiled 241 and M-P 231.

Oak Harbor’s Melany Cone (53 points) and Simone Hamilton (51) finished 3-4 in the individual standings Monday. Ashley Johnson and Sasha Olson earned 46 to tie for ninth, Millie Goebel had 45.

Those five and Mara Cortez all qualified for the district tournament May 18 and 20 at the Gallery.

Cone’s effort helped her finish second in the final individual league standings with 151.5 points (Everett’s Stefani Soelling had 159) and a berth on the all-Wesco first team. The medalist of each three-team match received 18 points, second 17, etc. The winner of the divisional meet earned 54 points, second 53, etc.

Hamilton (139.5) finished seventh, Johnson (118.5) 10th and Olson (116.5) 13th; all three earned second-team all-Wesco honors.
