Girls claim division match

Minus some of its regular varsity members, the Oak Harbor girls golf team pulled out a win in its first Western Conference North A Division match of the season Thursday.

The Wildcats earned 90 Stabbleford points for nine holes at Whidbey Golf and Country Club behind the team-high 22 points of senior Kristi Gavigan.

“Kristi had a solid performance…,” OHHS head coach Andy Wesley said.

OHHS also received positive efforts from varsity regulars Brittany Loveng (21) and Anndria Sutter (20).

Ashley McElhenie, Christina Carter and Sabrina Dent rounded out the field of OHHS scorers.

“We had some of our regular golfers unavailable to play yesterday, but Ashley, Christina and Sabrina really came through for the team,” Wesley said.

Stanwood (84), Arlington (74) and Mount Vernon (59) rounded out the rest of the WesCo North Division A field.

Oak Harbor hosted its first-ever Gallery Shootout on Tuesday, featuring 10 teams from around the area. The Wildcats finished fourth out of that group shooting a combined 423. Bellingham won the event with 339 strokes.

Wesley, who organized the event, was thrilled at the turnout and looks forward to next year.

“Next year we are hoping to get 20 or more (teams),” he said.
