The Oak Harbor Garden Club’s annual tour and tea is Saturday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A variety of gardens will be open.
A low maintenance yard was created for simplicity. But this yard isn’t boring — it’s filled with color, many tress and shrubs as well as a deck and a waterfall.
A park with a view covers six acres and contains a number of old-growth firs. Other trees were gifts from the owners’ children. Almost all the rocks used in landscaping came from the original 10-acre lot. The native rock forms borders, paths, terraces and retaining walls.
One couple dreamed of living in a hand-shaved log cabin in the woods. This dream home now features their woodwork creations as well as extensive plantings for shade, color and a wildlife garden plus two birdbaths and 12 birdhouses. Creations by grandchildren are focal points.
A busy, peaceful yard was designed for lawn reduction. Gravel paths were lined with lavender and ground covers. An oriental area has a small pond and bridge, a dragon house and tori.
Found art covers almost every inch of a north Oak Harbor home and expresses the owners’ eclectic tastes.
Home is where the horse is prancing in the pasture. But not in the yard where tree, shrubs and rock-bordered koi ponds combine for a restful view
Tea and homemade cookies will be served in a rustic location. Instrumental music will be presented during tea.
