Firefighters from Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue responded to a commercial fire alarm on Front Street about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The fire turned out to be a small smoldering piece of decking in between Toby’s and the old Mad Crab building.

Capt. Jerry Helm said this isn’t the first time his department has responded to a smoldering fire on this deck.

While the cause of this fire isn’t confirmed, Helm said there were cigarette butts in the area and previous incidents were believed to be caused by cigarettes.
