Coupeville High School’s Austin and Christine Fields made the cut after the first day of the state 1A golf tournament Tuesday, May 21, at Lake Spanaway.

The tournament finishes up today (Wednesday, May 22).

For senior Austin, it was a close shave. He shot an 85, the cutoff score, good for 39th overall.

Austin recovered from a rugged first nine to shoot 39 over the back side, including a five-foot par putt on 18 to slip into the second round.

Sophomore sister Christine is in 11th place with an 88, two shots out of sixth. She, too, got hot on the back nine. On the front she carded a 47 with four three-putt holes. She closed out with a 41, which included six pars and two double bogeys.

Ross Kukula of Ilwaco leads the boys with a 71.

Life Christian Academy’s Madisen Bentley fired a 71 to top the girls field.
