I see that sensible residents were soundly defeated in the recent tax increase (school levy) vote. Working parents can now be content knowing that their children will be looked after for extended periods each day by the school staff. We used to call this babysitting.
But do not worry, they will have plenty to do with such ambitious programs as art and physical education programs. Two very useful and important curriculum to be exposed to in our current computer-age and preparing for college entrance exams.
It is always comforting to know that our school board and the school money managers will have those extra dollars to use. It is much easier to hide inept management practices when the voters come along and bail you out.
I am, however, very happy to see that our kids have a hot lunch program. I had a hot lunch when I attended a one-room country school in 1948. What took so long?
And I really am elated to know that the students will have an opportunity for advanced placement classes, or was this thrown in just to hide a childcare program? I do feel that most students will probably opt for art or physical education while waiting for mom or dad to come pick them up after work.
