I was heartened to read letters in the Feb. 19 edition by Marcella Nisley, Ed Stone, Royal A. Gaffney, and Bill Ludlow concerning various issues. I don’t know any of these people, but I applaud their views as being a voice for the silent majority.

I would like to encourage a boycott of French and German products as long as these governments refuse to support what must be done to eradicate terrorism once and for all. Also, I’m wondering why the people, of THIS town in particular, haven’t refused to buy Chinese products after the “Whidbey 24” fiasco. There are many other Asian countries that would supply inexpensive goods to the stores here, if only those stores would elect to buy from them instead.

On another subject, it’s my opinion that a school building should last more than 30 years with proper planning and maintenance. I think a second high school, if necessary, would be preferable to adding space to the present building. Large schools tend to get out of control. Throwing more money at a problem with mismanagement at the top won’t fix a thing. As a taxpayer, I’m fed up with the poor education in the basics that kids are getting. This may be due, in part, to the state’s unrealistic mandates and to the breakdown of the traditional family (from whence comes home-taught values and ethics).

Thank you for letting me vent on a few of the subjects that have been on my mind for some time. While I’m at it, I’d like to thank whoever is taking care of our county roads. We seem to be blessed with uncounted miles of safe, paved roads, and the sanding trucks are out there when needed.
