The response Mr. Coats wrote (“Hmong culture produced shooting,” Whidbey News-Times, Dec. 1) about the shooting incident of the hunters in Wisconsin by Chai Vang is way off! Mr. Coats, this is not Vietnam. Chai Vang is in the United States of America. I accept other cultures and their different ways, however, if they break the laws here in this country and get caught, they should expect the punishment due.

I suspect Chai Vang was aware of this. Maybe Mr. Vang should have familiarized himself with the laws before going out in the woods. It was his responsibility to know what the rules are, before hand, in regards to private property. And then to kill people who ask him to the area? How can you possibly sell this to anyone and have them buy off on it? If the Hmong people do not understand the concept of private property, then they should not be out there in the first place. Different country, different rules! No Mr. Coats, your input is not even remotely acceptable. Not even for the slightest of seconds. Chai Vang may cry racism, but when it’s all over, he will be getting what he deserves, and at best, it will be life in prison.
