I have been a resident of Island County for more than 20 years. I have been researching Friends of Holmes Harbor (FOHH).

The president of FOHH lives in a large waterfront home (with a large dock and bulkhead) within sight of Nichols Brothers Boat Builders. She undoubtedly would enjoy it if the boat yard left and she no longer had to look at it. I believe she has every right to want the boat yard gone in order to improve her living surroundings, however, she shouldn’t be allowed to head a non-profit organization and accept donations from the public to accomplish her personal goals. And cause more than 400 long time residents of Island County to lose their jobs.

I also know that the president’s bulkhead (along with all bulkheads) is terrible for the shoreline, but no fight there! Nor is her personal dock going to be removed for the betterment of the harbor.

I have a better name for FOHH, how about Friends Against Nichols Brothers (FANB), or maybe Friends For Wealthy Waterfront Property Owners Property Enhancement (FFWWPOPE). Don’t be duped by these people. If you want to donate your hard-earned money, do it to an organization that helps people, not to one with a leader who helps herself.
