In the past few years Oak Harbor has renamed its streets several times. Is it me or is it getting to be that time again? I was doing the cul-de-sac shuffle the other day (not finding a short cut through some neighborhood east of Heller Road) and it occurred to me that it is quite possible that there are now more cul-de-sacs in Oak Harbor than there are oak trees. And in the spirit of keeping with its namesake, I motion that we rename Oak Harbor to the more appropriate Cul-de-sac, Washington.
What do you think? It even has a French sound to it which would logically draw more tourism from our neighbors to the north. Travelers would come to visit this island community they had never heard of and once they realize they are in what used to be Oak Harbor they would have no choice but to stop and have a quarter-pound double-stack at Wendy’s, gas up, get a latte and go home! But not before buying some obligatory T-shirts and coffee mugs. Maybe even a $30 sweatshirt with the new Cul-de-sac logo!
What a boon to the local economy! And several years from now when it’s that time again? Signalights, Washington.
