What a propitious time for the needs of our marina to come to light (News-Times, July 19). Millions are needed to refurbish this aged facility at the same time the mayor continues to push for her municipal pier. These two projects need to be melded into one — the marina should be relocated to the foot of Dock Street.
If we ever hope to convert this strictly military town into a tourist-friendly destination, then Oak Harbor needs a downtown draw. A bustling marina in the heart of the city just may do the trick.
Leave the industrial portion of the boat business where it is at the east end of the bay, but bring the tourists to within easy walking distance of the shops and restaurants. We should make it easier for them to get to town.
