When I first read Mr. Gordon Givan’s letter “Filibuster flabbergasts,” (May 25, Whidbey News-Times) I just shook my head at another person who is just repeating what they heard on FOX, but then I decided that I could not let his inaccurate statements stand.

Mr. Givan’s wrote, “Never in the history of the Senate has the filibuster been used to block voting like this. All of the judges must be allowed an up or down vote in the Senate just as was done for all of Clinton’s nominees without a filibuster by the Republicans.” He needed to do some research of his own. On March 8, 2000 Senator Bill Frist voted to uphold the Republican filibuster of Clinton nominee Judge Richard Paez. This information is currently available on line from the Senate’s own Web page. It is irrefutable.

I am just so tired of the lies coming out of “fair and balanced “journalists. The truth sometimes doesn’t serve the interests of the Right, so they ignore it, spin it or just plain lie. But the truth is the truth, and it doesn’t need anything added.

My hope is that people will get tired of looking foolish for repeating the spins and lies and will eventually stop repeating them. I further hope that at some point they will realize that lies are not moral values and the groups telling them are not worthy of our support.
