Feedback: Camano ferry time has come

Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, “There is nothing so powerful as an idea whose time has come.” What a fortunate thing it is that someone like George Bacon has that idea.

I have promised myself for years that I will paddle across that narrow neck of water in my kayak to play tennis in the indoor court at Stanwood on rainy days in the winter, rather than drive all the way around the Deception Pass way. Now it will not be necessary if Mr. Bacon’s plan is supported.

According to his letter to the editor in the Sept. 27 issue of the Whidbey News-Times, Mr. Bacon has already done his homework. He has located a barge that can be refitted as a ferry. The access roads are already in. The whole project could be completed with no cost to the county. Skagit County runs the ferry from Anacortes to Guemes Island at least 25 times a day. How about Island County running a ferry from Coupeville to Camano 10 times a day for starters?

Let’s hear it for George Bacon and the idea whose time has come!
