The Coupeville fastpitch team lost 13-1 in five innings at Lakewood Tuesday, May 3, and things won’t get any easier for the Wolves this week.

Coupeville, still looking for its first win, has five games

in then next four days against the league’s top three teams.

The Wolves (0-11, 0-10) host second-place Archbishop Thomas

Murphy (11-5, 11-3) Wednesday, May 4, at 4 p.m. then hit the road for double

headers at first-place Granite Falls (11-2, 10-2) Friday, May 6, at 3:30 and at

third-place Cedarcrest (7-4, 7-3) Saturday, May 7, at 1.

In the loss to Lakewood, seven errors and a handful of walks

helped the Cougars score 13 runs on only six hits.  Eight of the runs were unearned.

Coupeville went ahead with a run in the top of the first,

but Lakewood (7-8, 6-8) responded with three in its half and then piled on five

runs in each of the next two innings.

Coupeville coach Jackie Calkins said, “At the plate, pitch

selection is getting better, but overall contact was weak. We hit too many

infield routine plays and Lakewood didn’t make any mistakes fielding them.”

She added, “We continue to see growth in individual player’s

fundamentals, but we’re struggling to put it all together on the field in one

game.”
