Peg Tennant looked to the gray skies above, then realized it was late enough in the afternoon to safely talk about precipitation.

Tennant was pleased with a dry start to the 2016 Coupeville Farmers Market season Saturday after remembering many past years of soggy beginnings under her management.

The market, the third oldest in the state, opened for the 38th time, represented by a handful of farmers who brought fresh greens, garlic, other produce and vegetable starts. A few other vendors were on hand, selling kettle corn, books, perennials, tacos, blankets, wood carvings, lotions and more.’

Tennant said that more farmers will continue to show during a season that extends into early October.

The market will run each Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Community Green.

The Oak Harbor Farmers Market won’t start until May 19.
