Small business planning for unforeseen emergencies is the focus of a free workshop scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Coupeville Recreation Hall, 901 N.W. Alexander St.

Representatives from local emergency planning and response organizations will provide a series of short presentations with information for small business owners and suggestions on how to learn more.

Coupeville Mayor Nancy Conard will discuss the town’s emergency preparation and response plan; Terry Clark of Citizens Corps Council, Medical Reserve Corps and the Community Emergency Response Teams of Island County will discuss various programs for emergency planning, preparation and response.

Island County Department of Emergency Management Deputy Director Eric Brooks will give an overview of the county’s emergency planning and response capacity, and Central Whidbey Island Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief Chad Michael will discuss plans and preparations for responding to major emergency situations in and around Coupeville.

Dave Matulich, Puget Sound Energy’s municipal liaison manager for Whidbey Island, will discuss readiness and response plans for restoring electric service in the event of a major storm or earthquake.
