Elections: Crime victims support prosecutor

I would like to express my concern regarding the implication that the Island County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and Greg Banks, Island County prosecutor, are not accessible to victims.

Our former bookkeeper stole tens of thousands of dollars from our small business in Oak Harbor, and in addition to the theft of money, she managed to tarnish our good credit and reputation that we have built up over 22 years.

I doubt we would have gotten through that ordeal if it weren’t for the way we were treated by the Island County Prosecutor’s Office. Greg Banks’ deputy prosecutor Leslie Tidball, who prosecuted the case, spent hours with us making sure she understood the full impact it had on our lives (especially the impact to my husband’s health) and learning every detail about the business’ records as she prepared for trial against our former bookkeeper.

I know that a crime victim is not the prosecutor’s client (the public at large is), but it was clear to me that the prosecutor and Mr. Banks took our plight very seriously. We were kept informed of the progress, hearings, and all our concerns and questions were addressed promptly.

As victims we would not have asked for more, we were satisfied with the result. Our former bookkeeper was sentenced to three years in a settlement that we approved of.

I feel Greg Banks is the best qualified candidate for the position of Island County Prosecutor as he has demonstrated his loyalty and professionalism to the people of Island County.
