I see the war in Iraq as the single greatest mistake that an American President has made in my lifetime. The reasons Bush gave for going to war were false, and the cost has been incredible. The image of Bush decked out in a flight suit, landing on a carrier under a banner, that vividly proclaimed “Mission Accomplished,” has become a national embarrassment.

Much is also made of George W. Bush as a “man of faith.” With his dismal record on jobs, healthcare and the environment, as well as the addition of over 1.3 million people to the poverty rolls in this year alone, my theological training suggests to me that Mr. Bush falls seriously short of passing the test prescribed in Matthew 25:31-46.

And, finally, a personal anecdote … I have a good friend who recently retired from Boeing and has never voted for a Democrat for president. As has been his custom, he dutifully voted for George W. Bush in 2000. Recently, I received an e-mail from him indicating that he was working for the John Kerry campaign in King County. When I called to ask him why he had chosen to do this, he simply said, “I fear for my country.” If George W. Bush is elected on Nov. 2, so will I.
