A 22-year-old Oak Harbor woman is in intensive care in Seattle today for injuries she sustained in a car accident early yesterday morning, the state police reported.

According to a Washington State Patrol news release, Kathryn Simpson was driving southbound on Highway 20 just after 4 a.m. Sunday, April 17, when she failed to negotiate a curve in the road between Zylstra and Madrona Way. Her vehicle, a 2000 Ford Taurus, rolled over several times and came to rest on its wheels in a field.

Simpson was transported to Whidbey General Hospital where she was then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. A spokeswoman for the hospital said Monday morning that Simpson was in “serious condition and in intensive care.”

The state patrol news release cited that Simpson is suspected of driving too fast and while under the influence.
