Driver leaves license plate at hit and run scene

An alleged hit-and-run driver who left her license plate at the scene of the accident last fall is facing charges in Island County Superior Court, according to court documents.

Prosecutors charged Sarah M. S. Olsen, 28, on March 13 with possession of methamphetamine, hit and run with injury and driving while license suspended in the third degree.

Oak Harbor Police Officer Mel Lolmaugh responded to the hit-and-run collision at the intersection of the highway and Swantown Road Sept. 16. The driver of a truck reported that he was turning left off the highway when he was struck by a white car that left the scene.

The passenger in the truck complained of neck and back pain and was transported to the hospital.

Lolmaugh located a license plate and a bumper from the fleeing car. A deputy located the hit-and-run car and pulled it over on Southwest 24th Street.

The driver, Olsen, admitted that she struck the truck that turned in front of her. She said she panicked and left the scene because her license is suspended, according to Lolmaugh’s report.

After she was arrested, Olsen asked the officer to grab her purse from the car for her. Lolmaugh checked the purse and found a plastic bag of suspected meth inside, the report states.
