An anonymous donation is reinforcing what Kathy Jones already knew.

“This is a generous community,” said Jones, treasurer of the Oak Harbor Education Foundation.

A member of the community donated $5,000 to the foundation, to be spread equally among the five elementary schools in Oak Harbor.

The money goes to students with health, classroom or personal needs or assistance paying for school activities.

“The donor’s thought was that it would be something that would help kids stay in school,” said Jones.

“The reality is, a lot of kids do not come to school in warm clothes or well fed, and may have health or other needs that are problematic for them in school, that takes away from their ability to just come and sit and be able to do the school work.”
