Donations build for Help House

Skagit/Island Counties Builders Association delivered more than 13,000 pounds of chicken to food banks in Skagit and Island counties Aug. 19. Help House received 70 cases of the frozen fowl. This is the second delivery of chicken this year; almost 5 tons have been given to Help House and Good Cheer on South Whidbey. In April, SCIBA delivered more than 13,000 pounds to the food banks. Within hours of the Help House’s delivery by Bob Johnson, president of SCIBA and Wayne Crider, SCIBA’s executive officer, the chicken was being distributed.

“This is quite a donation and is the remaining half of what was purchased by SCIBA this year in cooperation with Draper Valley Farms to be given to local food banks,” Johnson said. “SCIBA raised more than $12,000 from its members from October through December of 2001 for this program. We now have spent all of those funds and certainly hope the association members’ generosity will not go unnoticed.”

“This is truly a blessing at the time of year when meat supplies are low. Recipients of this chicken are very lucky to have SCIBA members be so generous this year,” said Bill Nance of Help House.
