A consulting firm will give a presentation Wednesday, March 28, about the costs associated with creating a special taxing district to fund the installation of a new sewer system in the Oak Harbor neighborhood commonly known as Dillard’s Addition.

The special meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the classroom at the public works building on NE 16th Avenue.

The city hired Macaulay and Associated, Ltd., to conduct a special benefit analysis for consideration in formation of a proposed Local Improvement District supporting the construction of a gravity sewer system. An LID is a way for property owners to band together and assess themselves for the construction of local improvements.

Representatives from the firm will give a presentation at the meeting and answer questions.

Residents of the waterfront neighborhood have been embroiled in a fight over sewers since the city allowed a contractor to install a pressured, grinder-pump sewer system four years ago, without alerting residents who were expected to pay for connections. The city ended up buying the grinder system, but many of the residents want to install a more conventional system instead.
