Detectives investigating shooting of 17-year-old Oak Harbor boy

A 17-year-old Oak Harbor boy is at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after being shot early Wednesday morning, according to Island County Sheriff Mark Brown. Deputies responded to a medical call at a North Whidbey residence at 1 a.m. and discovered that the teenager, identified as John S. Johnson, had suffered a gunshot wound, according to the sheriff.

Deputies responded to a medical call at a North Whidbey residence at 1 a.m. and discovered that the teenager, identified as John S. Johnson, had suffered a gunshot wound, according to the sheriff.

Detectives are investigating the shooting. Brown said it doesn’t appear to be a random act and investigators don’t believe there is a threat to the public at this time.

The Oak Harbor school district identified Johnson as a former student and reported that he is in serious condition in intensive care.
