The largest homebuilder in the nation plans on building 135 homes on the south end of Oak Harbor.

A spokesperson for D.R. Horton said the community plan for the development, Village of Garry Oaks, features single-family homes from 1,450 to 2,500 square feet with pricing to be determined.

The company is purchasing finished lots from a private developer. The company expects to open the community and begin selling houses — whether planned, under construction or finished — in the late spring or early summer of 2023.

“D.R. Horton focuses on offering a home for every stage in life and typically offers multiple floor plans in our communities,” the company reported.

The property used to be owned by Garry Oaks, LLC but was delayed when two of the three partners alleged the third mismanaged the project and asked a judge to remove him earlier this year. The lawsuit was filed in 2020 and a bench trial is set for March 29.

Court documents state that the property was sold for $5.1 million on July 23, 2021.

Since 1978, D.R. Horton sold more than 870,000 homes. The company has been the largest homebuilder in the U.S. by volume since 2002.
