The first baby born in a Whidbey Island hospital in 2016 is here, and he is adorable.

Christian Alexander Longoria arrived at 7:51 a.m. Saturday morning weighing in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces at Naval Hospital Oak Harbor.

He is the first child of Rosangelica, 22, and Alexander Longoria, 24. Mom works as a logistics specialist for the Navy and dad is in the Army, stationed at Joint Base Lewis McChord.

Their baby boy arrived on his due date. In addition to being punctual, he was an easy pregnancy and a relatively fast, uncomplicated birth for mom. He sports a luxurious mop of black hair and bright, dark eyes.

“That full head of hair, those big eyes,” said Rosangelica Longoria. “He came out with his eyes wide open.”

The couple met in their hometown of Wichita, Kansas, and married in 2014. Since both serve in different branches of the military, they live apart. Alexander Longoria visits his wife on the weekends.

The baby was a joyous surprise for the couple, who thought they might not be able to have children because of a medical condition. They didn’t want to tell family and friends too soon about the pregnancy.

Now that he’s here, they see only a bright future for their son.

“I want him to be healthy,” said his mother. “We’re going to help him with anything he wants to do.”
