After completing the first draft of the Coupeville School District’s 2010-2011 budget, Superintendent Patty Page said the district is in a pretty good place financially.
The total projected decrease in funding is $338,939, which is about 26 percent less than last year’s cut. Due to smart spending and conservative enrollment estimates, the budget proposes no staff layoffs or program reductions, but one principal position was eliminated and replaced with an assistant principal/athlectic director position.
Furthermore, one counselor position was added and one full-time maintenance position was restored. The curriculum budget was increased by $16,000 in addition to a carryover of more than $64,000 that was added this year.
The budget is scheduled to be reviewed by board members at a public hearing on Monday, July 12 at 6:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend to learn further details and provide feedback.
School officials plan to adopt the final draft of the budget at the July 19 board meeting after any necessary revisions have been made.
