Coupeville is sending its RV visitors with human waste on board to get rid of to Oak Harbor.

In the coming weeks, the RV waste disposal station at Captain Coupe Park in Coupeville will be dismantled. Because of its removal, RV owners will have to go to Oak Harbor for the nearest disposal station.

During Tuesday’s Town Council meeting, Mayor Nancy Conard cited several reasons for the disposal station removal.

The dump station doesn’t currently meet standards and she estimated it would cost $10,000 to $15,000 to upgrade.

In addition, she said the town surveyed residents and found the dump station has been rarely used. Most of the use comes from tourists and commercial users such as carpet cleaning businesses. Conard said staff is worried about what is being dumped.

“We’re just concerned that we have no control over what is going in the treatment plant,” Conard said after the meeting.

The RV dump station will be removed from Captain Coupe Park in the next couple of weeks. The nearest dump station is located at Windjammer Park in Oak Harbor.
