Police say Cameron Wiggins admitted that he threatened to “bash” his wife’s head with a hammer during a fight over housework.

But the 42-year-old Coupeville man pleaded not guilty to a single count of harassment in Island County Superior Court Oct. 19. He was charged with the felony count Oct. 10.

According to the police report, Wiggins’ wife said they have been having marital problems for more than a year. She said the problems came to a head Oct. 6. Wiggins told her she could not wash windows “in the pants she was wearing,” reports show.

Later, Wiggins lost his temper while working in the house and broke the flag pole. When his wife asked him why he did it, he allegedly became more enraged. After she told him she “couldn’t stay in the marriage anymore,” he allegedly chased her into the house with a hammer and repeatedly threatened to kill her, the affidavit of probable cause states.

The woman locked herself in the bathroom and called 911.

Wiggins allegedly told the deputy who responded to the call that he lost his temper and threatened to brutally kill his wife, but he didn’t think it was such a big deal.
