To celebrate a successful year for the Coupeville Farmers Market, Harvest Fest will take place Saturday, Oct. 10, to provide a fun-filled day with games and contests.

“We’re going to have a big ol’ party,” market manager Peg Tennant said.

For the second year, the harvest relays will take place. Teams of five people will compete in the grape squeeze, egg nesting, eating a tomato on a string, udder pulling and pumpkin bowling.

As is traditional with each Harvest Fest, the giant pumpkin contest will take place, with the gigantic gourds arriving at the market around 11 a.m. with judging taking place later during the market.

The Coupeville Farmers market will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the field behind the public library on Alexander Street.

It looks like this has been another successful year for the market. Although the final numbers aren’t in yet, Tennant said it appears revenues will be at least 20 percent higher than last year’s record-setting total.

There have been between 50 and 60 vendors selling at the market in recent weeks. Vendors are still selling a wide variety of produce including squash, peaches, blueberries and beans.
