The Coupeville High School tennis team continued its dominance of the Olympic League by slipping by Klahowya twice Tuesday, April 19, in Silverdale.

The Coupeville High School tennis team continued its dominance of the Olympic League by slipping by Klahowya twice Tuesday, April 19, in Silverdale.

The first win was the conclusion of a match that was suspended March 24 when Coupeville left to catch the last ferry back to Whidbey Island.

At the time, the two teams were tied 3-3 and awaiting the conclusion of the first singles match. Coupeville’s Valen Trujillo and the Eagles’ Sydney Jackson split the first two sets and were tied 5-5 in the third.

Trujillo prevailed 7-5 Tuesday, winning eight of the final nine points and giving Coupeville the team win.

Coupeville won the second match 4-2.

Again, the match wasn’t completed because of the ferry schedule, but this time the Wolves had the win wrapped up regardless of the outcome of the unfinished fourth doubles match. Julia Borges and Julianne Sem, playing for Coupeville, won the first set 6-4 and were trailing in the second 4-1.

The Wolves won all three singles matches. Trujillo topped Jackson again, 6-4, 6-3.

“She had to work hard to win today’s match, but she came through big time,” coach Ken Stange said.

Sydney Autio took second singles 6-1, 6-3.

“It was a very business-like win for Sydney,” Stange said. “She was in control the whole way.”

Bree Daigneault “absolutely rolled” in the third singles match, according to Stange, winning 6-2, 6-0.

Stange called the first doubles contest “the match of the day.”

Sage Renninger and Payton Aparicio won 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(7-4).

The Coupeville duo trailed 4-5 in the final set, forced the tie-breaker and claimed the win.

“This gives them the top seed heading into our league tourney,” Stange said.

McKenzie Bailey and Jazmine Franklin lost in second doubles 6-1, 6-2; and Kenzie LaRue and Kamryn St. Onge fell in third doubles 6-3, 6-2.

Coupeville upped its Olympic League mark to 3-0 and remains unbeaten in its year-and-a-half in the conference.

The Wolves are 5-3 for the season. Klahowya dropped to 0-3 and 4-8.

Coupeville plays a non-league match at Granite Falls (3-4) at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 22.
