Beginning his 15th season with the boys program at Coupeville High School, Randy King is the dean of Whidbey Island local basketball coaches.
Last season, the Wolves finished 9-5 in league games and 11-9 overall, but were nosed out from earning a playoff position.
Playing in the Cascade League this season, King said Coupeville will be facing a lot of new challenges.
“There are some good teams in this league and I think King’s should be one of the top ones,†he said. “They are bringing back a high-placing state team and I assume they’ll be number-one in preseason polls. They have a 6-9 post player and a couple of kids who are 6-5.â€
However, the Wolves have a number of experienced players of their own, including returning seniors Brian Folkstead and Casey Larson.
Also coming back for his senior year is Trevor Tucker, who was injured and didn’t play during last season’s campaign.
Returning juniors include Brian Miller and James Smith.
“Alex Evans is also a junior who I expect to see a lot of playing time this season,†King said. “He played in a few games last year.â€
Promising new players include sophomores Cody Peters, Geoff Wacker, Zepher Loesch and Quentin Farmer, who all played during the summer.
