“They are a really good team, so it was a tough matchup for us,” coach Kyle Nelson said.

Sequim qualified for the playoffs last year with a 14-5 record.

Nelson did see improvement in his team since playing in the jamboree Saturday.

“We are making progress, and I expect us to be a very good team by the end of the season,” he said.

Sequim opened the scoring in the 13th minute, then added goals in the 27th and 65th minutes. Goalie Austin Wagner posted the shutout.

Coupeville hosts another tough opponent, South Whidbey, at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19. The Falcons were 16-6 last spring and reached the state quarterfinals.
