Community: When in need, friends appear

What a wonderful comunity we live in. Last week you published the story about my husband Ralph, and the difficulaty he has getting to his appointments at the Navy Hospital in Oak Harbor. We recieved so many calls from people all over the community who are willing to help Ralph get to and from his appointments. Many of them are retired Navy and have access to the base and also have vans with wheelchair lifts in them. We even recieved a call from a lady in Seattle who was visiting her sister here on the island. She also uses an electric scooter and drives her own van with a lift in it. She said that if we ever needed her she would come in from Seattle and take Ralph to and from his appointments.

What a wonderful place we live. The Navy Hospital had a person in patient affairs call us and she tried to find a solution to our problem, but was unable to come up with anything. She stated that she called about and could not find anyone who could accomadate Ralph getting to and from his appointments. Thanks to the people in the community who so freely offered their time and service to see to it that my husband gets to and from his appointments.

We truly do live in a wonderful caring community. Thank you all and God bless you, and a big thank you to the Whidbey News-Times for publishing the article.
