Regarding the Feb. 13 The Whidbey Examiner article, “COER asks Whidbey land trust to suspend taking Navy funding,” please let me see if I’ve got this straight.

The Navy contributes funds to the Whidbey Camano Land Trust which, in turn, uses the funds to protect the island’s natural resources.

That’s a good thing, right? One would think that Citizens of Ebey’s Reserve, a pro-environment group, would favor that.

Yet they don’t, and they’ve asked the Land Trust to “take a side” and refuse the Navy’s funds. Why? One can only surmise.

My theory: The COER doesn’t like the Navy, and it doesn’t want you to either.

So, the COER can’t have the Navy doing nice things for the environment — you might like them for that.

Nothing for it, then, but try to get the Land Trust to refuse the Navy’s funds.

Do the COER and its president want to be taken seriously?

If so, their actions certainly don’t reflect that.
