The Coast Guard is searching for nine people from an overturned canoe in the water five nautical miles north of Port Townsend, according to a news release from the United States Coast Guard.
At approximately 7:39 a.m. watchstanders at Sector Puget Sound, Wash., received a report from Jefferson County of nine people in the water near Admiralty Bay, Wash.
An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter was launched from Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., two 25-foot response boat smalls were deployed from Station Port Angeles, Wash., one 45-foot response boat medium from Station Bellingham, Wash., and Coast Guard cutter Wahoo, an 87-foot patrol boat from Port Angeles, were all deployed to the scene.
The overturned canoe was reportedly participating in the 2013 Intertribal Canoe Journey-Paddle to Quinalt, Wash. There have been no signs of distress located at this time, according to the release.
