Clipper cancels Coupeville tour stops for 2016

Tour stops to Coupeville and Langley from the Victoria Clipper were cancelled for this spring.

Tour stops to Coupeville and Langley from the Victoria Clipper were cancelled for this spring.

The decision was made by the tourism boat business due to transitions in new ownership, said Lynda Eccles, executive director of the Coupeville Chamber of Commerce.

“It means quite a substantial loss of money coming into town,” she said. “It was a nice economic boost.”

The Victoria Clipper has been coming to Coupeville each spring during pre scheduled weekends from mid-April to the early May.

The visits lasted about two hours and would bring several hundred people each weekend.

Eccles said because of the loss, the chamber is looking for other activities to bring people to town. Events like this weekend’s Chocolate Walk are important in helping the local economy thrive, she said.
