We don’t like to write letters of condemnation, much preferring letters of commendation. But what is happening at our beautiful City Beach Park?

While out walking the other day, we saw a group of young men working on the tennis courts. We thought, “Oh great, they’re going to fix them so we can play tennis again.” There used to be groups using them for lessons, but the courts had fallen into disrepair the last few years . . .no wonder hardly anyone used them.

Then we hear they are going to disappear and, of all things, another baseball field put in. We thought the park was for everyone, not just organized baseball. The fields are only used part of the year anyway, except for people letting their dogs exercise. Also, it doesn’t look like there will be enough room there for another baseball field, so does that mean they’ll take out the children’s play areas as well?

This city park is one of the best in the Northwest and is used by citizens of all ages, not just baseball aficionados. We don’t understand why the people of the community were not informed of this desecration before it took place.

Why wasn’t the plan given more publicity? Another baseball field is what we don’t need!
