A new school record was one of many bright spots for the Coupeville High School track team at Olympic High School Thursday, April 21.

The Coupeville girls and boys teams each won two of the three dual meets.

The girls edged Port Townsend 60-56 and North Mason 58-54 and lost to Olympic 106-34.

The boys beat Port Townsend 84-43 and North Mason 89-43 and fell to the hosts 92-53.

The Coupeville girls 4×100 relay team of Lauren Grove, Lindsey Roberts, Makana Stone and Sylvia Hurlburt posted a new school record of 51.1 while placing second.

The quartet won the 4×200 in 1:47, the best 1A time this spring.

Stone collected the only individual win for the girls, taking the 800 (2:21.89).

Roberts took second in the 100 hurdles (17.91), and 4×400 squad (Lauren Bayne, McKenzie Meyer, Madison Rixe and Abby Parker) also finished second (4:53.52).

Dalton Martin won twice for the boys (discus, 153-01; shot put, 40-94.25), while Lathom Kelley (300 hurdles, 42.03) and Jordan Ford (pole vault, 11-06) each captured one event.

Kelley added a second in the long jump (18-10), and Ford was second in the 4×100 relay with Jacob Smith, Gabe Eck, and Jared Helmstadter (46.22). Others placing second were Grey Rische (javelin, 119-03), Chris Battaglia (discus, 95-08), Ryan Griggs (high jump, 5-06) and Mitchell Carroll (triple jump, 38-02).

The Wolves compete in the Olympic League championships at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at North Kitsap.
