A 27-year-old Coupeville man was recently sent to prison for having sex with an underaged girl, pointing a handgun at her head and threatening to kill her.

Chad Perdue pleaded guilty in Island County Superior Court Jan. 25 to third-degree rape of a child, second-degree assault and harassment.

Under a plea bargain, both the prosecutor and defense recommended that Perdue receive a sentence of a year and eight months in prison. On March 8, Island County Judge Alan Hancock agreed with the recommendation and imposed the sentence.

Two counts of distribution of marijuana to a minor and a single count of theft of a firearm were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

The victim first reported the crimes when she was in a treatment center in another county. She said she and Perdue had a sexual relationship in 2006, when she was just 15 years old.

Perdue took a handgun from his parents’ night stand and pointed it at her on several occasions; he even pulled the trigger on the unloaded gun. The girl reported that Perdue threatened to kill her friend in front of her if she ever breaks up with him.

In an interview with a deputy, Perdue was adamant that he did not know the girl.
