Oak Harbor High School cheerleaders competed in their second event of the young season on Saturday at Decatur High School in Federal Way, and what an event it was.
The Wildcats won their second straight title with a score of 226 points in the super large co-ed division, beating out Bremerton High School that finished with a point total of 146.
Oak Harbor was one of only four schools out of 24 teams in the competition that met the qualifying score of 195 points or higher for Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association state standards.
“We upped our skills by adding double down cradles, two kick twisting basket tosses, tucks and more co-ed partner stunting,” said coach Pam Headridge. “The team may be new but they have a drive to succeed. Even with one of the guys quitting, the team was not deterred and competed at a higher level than in their last competition.”
The next event for the cheer team is the annual Oak Harbor High School Spiritfest beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20.
